Causes of Negative thoughts and how to Get rid of it
We can’t deny the fact that everyone of us pass through daily basis of negative feelings. This normally happens as a result of idleness, depression, anxiety and of course the thoughts we feed our minds. Whether we choose to accept it or not, negative thoughts are one of the very bad traits we as human beings can not escape. Although it is a general common symptom of many causes, negative feelings can vary from different angles leading one to a push in action depending on the situation they’re in. Let’s take for instance, a girl is being bullied at school to the extent she’s driven to commit suicide. Actions like this are brought about by thinking or feeling severe depression and at times loneliness. These thoughts are considered to be highly dangerous and if not attended to, could lead to something far more serious and regrettable.
Today, I will be discussing from my research the types of general negative thoughts and how they can be handled with some effort.
1. Unworthiness
Thoughts like ‘I’m a failure’, ‘I’m not good enough’, ‘I don’t deserve this’ or ‘I’m so useless’ can affect our daily lives and might play a huge impact in our actions and emotions fi not tamed immediately. Having unworthy thoughts normally happens as a result of feeling useless, profitless, lack in value or trying and trying and not receiving any results. Its best not to feel you’re not enough or you can’t do kore. We’re all human beings. None of us are 100% perfect and the truth is we can’t do anything about it but to try making the most out of what we can do with our strength. The best way to get rid of unworthy feelings is to:
- Accept your strength/capability: Believe you can accomplish something even though, yeah, you try your hardest only to fail at the end, its still better than doing nothing. My advice, best to try and do something as it is better than doing nothing. By accepting your capability of doing things can help you in the long run against unworthiness.
- Accept the fact that you can’t always be perfect at everything: Don’t measure or compare yourself to someone you feel is far way perfect than you. You never know what that said person might be going through deep inside. Acknowledge your level of doing things, try learning new stuffs, improve bit by bit and you’ll see yourself getting somewhere.
- Value yourself: You are loved, you are precious, you are amazing and you are a wonderful person. Fill your mind and heart with pleasantries that doesn’t have to necessarily come from others as this could go a long way in helping you conquer an unworthy feeling.
- Have the right mindset: Don’t blame yourself or everything around you and give petty excuses of how things aren’t working and that you should just stop. That’s just wrong. Be positive and have the right mindset. So instead of stopping at the road due blaming yourself and circumstances, you should push forward by blocking such negativity.
- Accept that you’ll face challenges: If you don’t accept this factor in the long run of your goals, then you’ll be weighed down and probably end up at step one. Life is a challenge and the sooner you accept that, the better you face it head on.
2. Pride
‘I can’t be controlled’, ‘I can do this on my own’, ‘you can’t tell me what to do’. ‘my way is much better than yours’ are all symptoms of pride and thus is a negative feeling you ought to get rid of. Pride can be of good and bad personality traits but I will be laying more emphasis on the negative side. Pride is normally associated with the three words: conceit, superiority and arrogance. This sort of pride comes from being self-centered causing it to be a destructive element in ones life and relationships. Getting rid of prode is not easy but can be done in some of the following ways:
- Don’t compare yourself with others
- Admit your mistakes and weaknesses
- Always be willing to apologize whether wrong or right
- Accept help and the assistance from others
- Don’t compete against others
- Don’t envy or feel jealousy
- Be content and grateful no matter how little it might be
- Be willing to serve others
- Treat others as you would want them to treat you
- Don’t boast about your accomplishment
- Always remain humble and meek in the presence or sight of others
3. Suicide
I might not have the slightest idea as to what you’re going through or facing, but I can assure you, suicide is not the right choice to make. You have a responsibility to the world and to yourself, and the truth is, if life never wanted you then you wouldn’t have been in existence. Whenever thoughts like this cross your mind, you should distract yourself with something to stay clear from it. you should try:
o Surrounding yourself with merry people
o Discussing your problems or challenges with loved ones
o Doing things with others that makes you happy
o Engaging yourself with a relaxing hobby
It is important that you surround yourself with people that give out positive energy and NEVER to be alone when such thoughts cross your mind.
4. Depression
Caused by the feeling of severe sadness, loss of interest, idleness and dejection. This feeling is one of the most common things we human beings will always pass through and is inescapable depending on serious it gets. Just like in the case of ‘suicide’, surrounding yourself with friends and loved ones can also help cure depression. Always make sure you aren’t idle or alone when depression slips in as it could lead you to take regrettable steps. Always remember to surround yourself with a positive aura or radiance.
Other ways of curing negative thoughts includes:
- Meditation
- Yoga
- Exercises
- Hobby
- Watching comedies
I really hope this article helped you to understand that having negative thoughts can most definitely ruin your daily life and activities. Remember- staying positive is the key to maintaining a healthy easy going life style.
